My toe looked like a hobbit toe. Fat and coming out the side of my foot. The skin was all still attached, but it was definitely not in the right place. My mom took the kids out and my husband took me to the walk-in orthopedic center. We got right in, chuckled at how terrible my foot looked, and got some x-rays taken. I was taken aback at how little pain I felt. It definitely was throbbing, although it was a dull throb–I thought breaks would really hurt!
Sure enough, the x-rays showed I had fractured my pinky toe. I was concerned that surgery would be needed and I’d have to wear a boot to Europe. Thankfully, the doctor said he just needed to reset the bone and then he’d tape it to the toe next to it and I’d have to wear this really stylish black birkenstock-looking shoe for 4 weeks until it completely heals.
The doctor numbed me before setting the bone. It still didn’t feel good, but at least it wasn’t painful. He taped up my toe and fit me with this awesome boot-shoe, and then we were on our way.
So, it was fun times and quite an adventure! I’m grateful it was just my toe and I’m even more grateful that my husband was home to take care of me and that my mom just happened to be there so she could take my kids!
Let the Nomad-Family adventures continue!
