When you go to a hotel with 4 children it’s very rare that they let you book one room–actually, we have never been allowed to book one room unless it was a suite–in the States– and that’s when we snuck our kids in.
Last night we arrived in India, where we are in a hotel for 2 weeks since I was too uncomfortable venturing out into the Airbnb world here. We were so tired after 30+hours of travel, we decided the buffet at the hotel would be the most child-friendly option for dinner. $200 later, we went to bed, realizing the buffet dinner was not going to be financially feasible every single day for 2 weeks!
Today, we left our kids in their room while we went up to the executive lounge for cocktail hour. That is when my husband and I realized what a wonderful thing this perk of a diamond member was! For cocktail hour they had snacks–and by “snacks” I mean they had what we qualify as dinner for our kids.
My husband asked one of the workers how long they were serving dinner–to which the gentleman did a double take and responded,
“Sir, this is not dinner. This is cocktail hour.”
“Um, ok–how long is your cocktail hour?”
“We are open until 8:00 pm.”
We happily called our kids up to the lounge, got them some sweet and sour chicken, Indian flavored fish, bread, veggies–and even some cookies. And they ate. And ate. And their tummies were satisfied. An added perk, was when I told them our four children were coming up, they moved us to their private library. This was a closed room and we dined together in privacy so that the other executives wouldn’t complain about the noisy family over there :)! I’m only hoping they won’t give us a hard time as the week progresses and we continue this dinner regiment!
So, I guess there are some perks to my husband having traveled so much for work! Hilton–to us, your free cocktail hour in your executive lounge is free dinner for our kids. From the bottom of our hearts and wallets, thank you very much!
